CentOS Directory Server on SME Server
« on: August 06, 2008, 11:04:08 AM »
Good Day

A couple of weeks ago I asked if Fedora Directory Server would work on SME Server, I dont think anybody ahd tried??

Anyway I found this tutorial

http://www.howtoforge.com/centos-directory-server-on-centos5.2

Which seems excellent, does anybody think this would cause a problem on the SME Server if I was to install it??, eg with the current LDAP configuration??

Cheers

Hi

Sme 7.X is based on CentOS 4.X, so the tutorial MAYBE could work with Sme 8.X

I am wondering what new features it would bring to SME Server, I am unfamiliar with either Fedora or Centos Directory Server.

Yes I figured out something like that, but AFAIK can judge from the sparse amount of information it seems to me that it is nothing more than a shell around the slapd daemon (providing LDAP information) which is already running on SME Server as well. I am curious to know if it does add features SME Server does not offer right now, does it do more than only LDAP?

Well it allows one to configure a pretty comprehensive Address book for a company.

I am using the Fedora Directory Server as an Address book for users outlook, the current "theaddressbook" isn't comprehensive enough and the LDAP contrib "phpldapadmin" doesn't have enough fields in it.

The users a very happy with the FDS on a fedora 6 install, but I want to move it to the SME Server.

Cheers

should be, IMHO:

but I wish to move it to the SME Server
:-)

moving Fedora/Centos DS to SME is a very BIG thing..
If you are really interested in you colud:
- install/code/test yourself posting results (templates/fragments ecc) to bugzilla
- pay someone to do the job :-)

all, naturally, IMO
