hostname and addresses
« on: August 15, 2008, 12:18:28 PM »
I would like to know if it's possible to point a hostname to a dyndns domain.  Trying to do this in server-manager gives an error of it must be an ip address.  Because my destination is dynamic, i can not enter an ip address and only a dyndns domain

Please help?

Hi.
I don't have any experience with dynamic dns, but I'll throw my two bob in.

I assume any dynamic DNS stuff would have to be done via the admin console, although I could be wrong.

Log into your server as admin.
Select option 2, "configure this server".
Select "next" through each option to leave them unchanged until you get to "Select dynamic DNS service".
You should find what you need there.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply, but i am using ddclient to do my dyndns.  That is for getting to my site.  That is not my problem.  I want to get to another site from my office using a domain name pointing to a dyndns domain.

otherdomain.com -> 10.10.10.10 - I can not do that as the address is dinamic

i need something like

otherdomain.com -> other.dyndns.org

Regards

Are you trying to use dyndns for a domain name not under your control??

Whatever server is hosting the site you are trying to access must be updating dyndns with its current IP address. Dyndns then creates the proper dns record so name resolution works for that domain name. There is no way that you can use dyndns to do DNS for a site you do not control.
