Hi I am having a strange thing happen

When I try to use a remote vpn connection to the server, none of the user names or passwords are being accepted

All other methods of logging onto the server are working ie ftp, remote server login, putty, local samba is ok.

Only issue is with VPN not accepting user name and passwords.

Has anyone else experienced this, in 18 months of using a number of sme servers this is the first time I have experienced this.

Ip address's at both ends are different

What files or logs should I be looking at to see what's happening.

This happened after moving the server to a new location.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

All pptpd connections are logged in the "messages" log file.

What is the exact error displayed on the client when trying to connect?

What is the layout of your internet connection and network?

Is the server attached to the internet in the EXACT same fashion as it was in the previous location with the same equipment?

Is the a router between the interned and the server?

Many have experienced VPN connection problems.  Search the forums and bug tracker, you will find MANY different reasons why VPN doesn't work and just as many different solutions.

are you sure users have vpn access?

btw, only logs can help you to understand what's going on

Its very strange as vpn was working at old location before moving the server, yes checked vpn user settings on all accounts.  All other forms of logging onto the server work correctly for all accounts, but its only VPN that is not accepting the user name and/or passwords.

Which log files where would show what's happening????

Have tried from various computers using various vpn connection methods and Im getting the same result no matter what I do!!!

Created new test accounts!!

Thanks
Steve

vpn was working at old location before moving the server

are you saying than also connection has changed? in that case, check your router/firewall let port 1723 TCP and protocol 47 GRE pass to sme.

also check /var/log/messages

OK all is now working OK

It turned out to be a setting on the modem that has its own vpn abilities and was turned on by defult (New Modem) and I completely missed it.  It was interrupting the connection.  Once turned off all worked fine.

Thank you all for you help
