nut, apcupsd and a Share-UPS
« on: September 18, 2008, 07:58:21 AM »
Hi,

We have two SME Servers that we'd like to connect to our APC UPS devices. I've tried nut, and that works, but only when connected directly via the serial cable to the UPS. We need to connect to the servers using a dumb signalling cable and a dumb signalling port since we are using a Share-UPS Interface Expander and a Win2003 Server is using the advanced signalling port.

Whenever I connect the UPS using a dumb signalling cable, or even the smart signalling cable using the advanced port on the share-ups, and run
Code: [Select]
upsc UPS@localhostI get the "Driver not connected" message.

I've heard that SME users have used apcupsd with some success. I tried to download the apcupsd rpm but it didn't install properly (no errors, but running
Code: [Select]
which apcupsd returns
Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/which: no apcupsd in (/sbin/e-smith:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin)).

Is anyone able to explain to me how I could get nut to work with the Share-UPS, or install apcupsd? I guess I could try installing apcupsd from source but I'd rather not muck around with that if there's an easier way.

Thanks in advance!

hi

one solution could be to setup one sme server directly connected to ups as master and the other one and windows as nut slave .

my 2c
