Not sure who to ask about this... I'm already signed up to this forum so I'll ask here.

I've just built a new FreeNAS box and I'm going to use it to backup my SME box. I can't seem to get it to use the SME server to Authenticate for usernames and passwords. Can someone run me through how it's done and I'll check it against my settings?

According to "Diagnostics: Information: MS Domain"

Accessiblity test to MS domain:

Results for net rpc testjoin:
Join to 'domainname' is OK

Ping winbindd to see if it is alive:
Ping to winbindd succeeded on fd 4

Check shared secret:
checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded

But when I browse to my server \\nas01\ it asks for a password, so I put in my user name and password from my SME box and it tells me it's wrong. However, the admin account can browse it. Do I have to add my users to the Freenas box?

I think you are better off asking how to make FreeNas use winbind against a samba PDC in the FreeNas forums.

Freenas is just a storage server. So If you setup a job on your Windows box to copy to a share on the NAS then it would work for backup. That's how I've setup my SME box. It backups that way. But I have to say I like the look of this backupPC. I've never seen it before? Are you happy with it?

So, what does backupPC lack?

The more I look at this BackupPC the more I think I'll have to build one. I love the way you can just pull out individual files as needed. That's the reason I'm still using the outdated Backup2rar. As the newer backup to dar looks quite hard to put out individual files.

I've just got to work out how to backup my SME box to it, maybe via RSYNC?. Are you using it to backup your SME? If so, how?

Thanks for letting me know about it.

Hi Smitro

Yes I use BackupPC for some of my Client's Windowz XP Boxes. I found it very Tricky to use at First. I'm still Learning but I must say that it Wortks Great when you get it working.
