Nagios Installation as per WIKI
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:50:43 AM »
Good Day

I am trying to install Nagios as per the instructions in the WIKI, when I try to run the following command on SME Server 7.3

/usr/bin/yum --enablerepo=dag localinstall \
 smeserver-nagios-nsca-*.noarch.rpm \
 smeserver-nagios-backup-*.noarch.rpm \
 perl-Nagios-Plugin-*.noarch.rpm \
 smeserver-nagios-plugins-*.noarch.rpm \
 nagios-plugins-generic-*.noarch.rpm \
 nagios-of-plugins-*.noarch.rpm

I get the following error

Setting up repositories
dag                       100% |=========================| 1.1 kB    00:00
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Reading repository metadata in from local files
primary.xml.gz            100% |=========================| 751 kB    02:52
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

Now I assume this is a problem with the DAG repositry?? I have cleaned my YUM repository and it still doesn't work??

I have then tried only a local install for the Nagios items and of course there are many dependencies to be fulfilled, what alternative repository could I use to get these files...or should I download them separate??

Good Day

I am trying to install Nagios as per the instructions in the WIKI, ...

I get the following error

Setting up repositories
dag                       100% |=========================| 1.1 kB    00:00
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Reading repository metadata in from local files
primary.xml.gz            100% |=========================| 751 kB    02:52
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

Shawn,

primary.xml.gz (http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/primary.xml.gz)
and
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/

worksfor me ...
...if you look at the repo-dates they have been changed "Sept. 28" and "Sept. 29"  :shock:

Just try again  8-)

Regards
Reinhold
... no I don't use nagios - just checked for you  :smile:

Shawn,

Actually you are (still) downloading the contrib from "contribs.org" <grin>
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/michaelw/sme7/nagios/packages/

Trouble with repo's, especially semiprivate ones like dag, is normal (=to be expected  :eek: )
Note: Since this (like most Linux stuff) is in (text) files ...
I try to follow them "manually" i.e. with my browser...if this doesn't work - how should yum ???  8)

The SME-Nagios contrib itself btw is from Michael Weinberger ... the same guy that gave us affa
(iow i'd be very astonished if there is something wrong   :o  ...unless 7.3 changed it  :P)

...and shouldn't that emoticon of your's be more like " :-D :-D :-D "

Regards
Reinhold

P.S.: Some repos show there mirrors on the frontpage ... often those (still) work (or the other way round <eg>)

The script in this directory downloads all the files for installation but not the dependencies...

FYI:
Today I have setup another Nagios server + Nagios Grapher following the Wiki instructions (using cut&paste) .
It still works as expected.
I assume the problem of the OP was simply a temporarily outage of the dag repository.

but
/usr/bin/yum --enablerepo=dag localinstall ...
and
/usr/bin/yum --enablerepo=dag install ...
do, if the dag repo is online

Hi,

the nagios contrib does not work for me. It seems the sme pacckages have dissappeared form the repository:

nagios-plugins-temptrax-2.0.1-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm: OK
md5sum: smeserver-nagios-2.0.0-1.noarch.rpm: No such file or directory
smeserver-nagios-2.0.0-1.noarch.rpm: FAILED open or read

Are they no longer available?
