Where did my e-mail go?
« on: October 06, 2008, 07:25:40 AM »
As of last night 10/4/08, at about 8:45 pm, I stopped receiving e-mails. This is the latest error message.

It is the only error message I have received.

SME 7.3 up to date with no add-ons
Static ip address

Things I have tried:

Setting the imap port (143) public
Changing ports to 1143
Checking to see if my domain is grey/black listed
Send test messages from other e-mail accounts
Talking with my ISP
Traceroute and dns look up are fine
domain resolves to my static ip address (207.114.55.23)
db configuration indicated imap enabled

Obviously something has changed in my configuration, but I can not find it.

The following is an error message received when I sent an e-mail from my school account via webmail.

I am at a loss. Any ideas?

You seem to have forgotten to look in your logfiles, you would most likely have found a pointer there. Also you could have seen this sticky post in the forums: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=42253.0 . If you have RHSBL lists enabled please follow up the instructions there, they should solve your issues.

Thank you for your help.

I did a search of the forum, but obviously didn't use the right string.
I also looked at the logs files, but was quickly overwhelmed with the number and complexity of log files that are kept.

So I might have a better chance of solving my own problems in the future, which log file/s should I have looked at and what would I need to look for? I'd like to learn more about what gets my e-mail for me.

Thanks again........

Henry

There's a wiki page on log files, but it's barely more than a skeleton: http://wiki.contribs.org/Log_Files

In this case the /var/log/qpsmtpd/current log might have given you the clues if you would be able to interpret them

Thank you for your reply. I'll have a look at both the log files and the log wiki.
