1. I think you are misunderstanding the topic of this thread. I think the poster was soliciting opinions on what type of BBS systems works well that someone could install on their own SME server. To answer that question, I would say phpBB is a very good choice. Version 2 has some good features and there is a very well done How-To in the contrib area by Dan Brown.
2. You can have the messages from this bbs delivered to your inbox. I have done this. You cannot reply directly from your inbox, but there is a handy link to the thread within each message. I respond to the messages that I feel my input would be useful, I read the ones that I find interesting and I delete the rest. Don't see this as a big deal.
