HP Proliant ML110 G5 with RAID 1 SATA drives. After noticing the FAN on full speed, did a reboot. PC failed to boot, no video, no beeps, no POST, nothing! After half a day talking to Mumbia help desk, got a new Motherboard under warranty. Swapped out no worries. Plugged in drives and went to boot. Now have video and POST. Upon booting, get to on board RAID setup and think Aha! need to set this up again. Gulp, didn't record what I did in the first place - what I called the RAID array etc. So figured, guess, call it SME. System then asks to set up an array and add the disks. I get a message about array not being clean or something (yeah, I should have written the message down) but figured it will sort itself out. Try and do a RAID verify and get a warning about the partition config needs to be updated. To cut to the chase, now it doesn't boot.
I have paniced and pulled one drive out now. Playing with the other, I used TestDisk to repair the partition table. It sees the partitions and has done some sort of fix. Now I get 1234F when I boot, and if I choose "2" I get "Windows can't find boot ....", nothing if I press 1, 4 or F. 3 is an HP special recovery or something weird.
Have used the boot CD and run SME rescue. Get the network up. Says will try to find installation and mount. All good so far. It then reports an error saying "error occurred trying to mount some or all of your system.." but drops to command line. Can change to /mnt/sysimage and see my files. At this stage am ftp'ing off important data (and taking hours). Scrounging around to find big enough hard drives etc (about 130 GB of data to back up).
Can I restore it to boot, so I don't have to reinstall all my contribs, email settings, accounts etc, etc ?
