Can't open /var/run/nut/usbhid-ups-hiddev0.pid: No such file or directory

Can anyone see if I'm doing anything wrong?

you could install apcupsd from dag repository.. works fine on SME

BTW, in my experience APC's ups with usb connection are quite a bad beast
