Expand SME partition and replacing HD
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:23:59 PM »
I'm planning on updating the 80GB drives in my server to 1TB drives.  I'm using a Dell poweredge server with raid1 on two SATA drives.  I've figured out I should be able to replace on 80gb drive with the 1tb drive and have the dell "rebuild" the raid 1.  This should copy the partition from the slave raid1 80gb drive to the master 1tb drive.

What I don't understand is once I get that done and replace the slave 80gb with the slave 1tb drive and rebuild a second time to have my hardware raid1 working on 2 1TB drives, how would I expand the ext3 partion to take advantage of the full 1TB of drive I have now.

Anyone have any success in this avenue of replacing drives in the same server box and not losing any data?

This wiki entry tells you how: http://wiki.contribs.org/Raid#Upgrading_the_Hard_Drive_Size

I've done this, but not to 1Tb. No data loss, no problems.
