Twiggi for 7.2 wanted
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:50:40 PM »
I have a client who is still running twiggi on an old 5.6 server. The users do not want to change.

Does anyone know of a twiggi version that will work on 7.2?

Up until february 2007 I used Twiggi as webmail client on an 6.x server. After updating to 7.0 or 7.1 (can't remember exactly), Twiggi gave a number of problems: attachments that wouldn't open. I wasn't able to resolve the problems so I decided to install Twig 2.8.3 instead. Twig is very similar to Twiggi and I've been running it succesfully all the way up to SME 7.3. You can find the files and documentation at http://informationgateway.org.

However I recommend that you install a demo version of another groupware solution (such as egroupware). I think your client will be quickly convinced that Twig(gi) is getting out of date and there are much more user friendly and powerful groupware solutions around.

Are you still running SME 5.6? If the devs read this their hair will turn gray instantly (as a matter of speaking).

Bob,

Twiggi was a customized version of Twig that Darrell May supported for some time.  AFAIK, Darrell no longer supports Twiggi.

Twig is a deadend project.  The Twig website states the last stable build as released in 2005.

When Darrell released Twiggi, there weren't alot of decent groupware apps available that could be easily installed on SME.   In it's day, Twiggi was a very good app.

Now, there are many solutions that far exceed Twiggi on SME.  I would recommend going with egroupware:  http://wiki.contribs.org/Egroupware   This app has many similarities to Twiggi, but is actively maintained and is well packaged for SME.

Of course users don't want to change, this is normal.   What do you think happened to all of the Quarto Pro people who were forced to switch to MS Excel.
