My SME 7.3 server only mode server cant send emails
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:42:35 PM »
Hi all,
this is the first time am posting on this forum. I have always found answers by searching. I have failed to get this. I have installed a SME 7.3 server in server mode only. All the users can receive mail but cannot send. i initially set it when the client had a dynamical ip and it was working perfectly.
Two things happenned
The domain provider setup[ a secondary server on our request
We got a fixed ip.
When we got the fixed ip I did not change anything. the IP set on the server is still the local ip assigned to the server by the router.

Any ideas

Hi

could you please explain:

- how do you send emails? (directly from your sme, by your isp's smarthost)
- how is your server connected to internet?
- what kind of error you see in the logs?

Ciao
Stefano

If you are receiving email, then you are very close.

1. Ensure that the fixed IP that your domain provider gave you resolves to your domain.   Here is a free website that allows DNS and reverse-DNS lookups:  http://www.lookupserver.com/

2. Verify that you SME Server is configured to control your domain name on your LAN.  You can verify this in the server-manager and can change/set it by accessing the console.

3. Verify that your client machine email clients are setup to use your SME Server for incoming and outgoing email.

All of this is covered in detail in the SME Server documentation, located here:  http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation

qtime is the time spent by a message in the queue.

ddelay is the latency for a successful delivery to one recipient---the
end of successful delivery, minus the time when the message was queued.

xdelay is the latency for a delivery attempt---the time when the attempt
finished, minus the time when it started. The average concurrency is the
total xdelay for all deliveries divided by the time span; this is a good
measure of how busy the mailer is.

Yes the ip configures properly
Point 2i s hard to say whay should the settings be
Point 3 is taken care of.

I have really lloked at this issue and some facts
I have confured 3 servers all with the same SME7.3 CD
The ISP is the same
The are all Dell servers
Two can connect have no problem whatsoever
The two dont have a fixed public IP
The two dont have secondary servers

The one not working was working TILL A secondary aserver was set by the domain hosts
a public IP was given

Question
In the light of the public IP is it anywhere on the server I should imput it
are there setting I should change
is there anything that should point to the secondary server :-?

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at domain.com.
I tried to deliver a bounce message to this address, but the bounce bounced!
And you are sure your domain name is domain.com? I think you need to configure a valid primary domain for your server.

Next time also please make use of the code block when posting logs and only try to paste relevant stuff, we really do not need the body of the e-mail, the headers would have been enough in this case.

The domain is the right one I just changed it in the post.
Sorry for the long posting. Rectified
