DNS for local domain settings
« on: December 23, 2008, 04:21:27 PM »
Hello,

I have a setup where we have a local DOMAIN.local domain, and a SME box that does DOMAIN.com

local DNS is done by a windoze 2003 SBS box, and internet DNS and mail is done by the SME box .

Now I want to send e-mail from SBSSERVER.DOMAIN.local to user@DOMAIN.com, but I keep getting error logs where the error message was 'cannot resolve SBSSERVER.DOMAIN.local ..

Is this clear to anyone, and anyone knows how to help me? I have tried to tell the SME box to receive mail for wiki.DOMAIN.local , but it does not help.

I am thankful for any tip..

Merry Christmas !
Michel

Why not configure your SME server to use the real domain and configure SME Server to forward DNS requests to the windows server?

well, I thought I had done that.. the SME box is WWW.mydomain.com, which is our real domain. it has an external IP and an internal DMZ ip on 192.168.10.x together with a few other sme boxes. then there is the mydomain.local which is our local network which is on 192.168.0.x .

in my example DOMAIN refers to a real domain name .. in this example it would be mydomain ..

how can i tell sme to forward .local dns to dnsserver.mydomain.local on 192.168.0.n ?

Don't know, why do you use the domain.local for your WAN, why not you real domain name as this would solve your issue AFAIK.
