contrib webshare and Foxmarks for Firefox
« on: December 25, 2008, 08:17:06 PM »
The Firefox Addon Foxmarks allow to safe and syncronize the Browser bookmarks to have it available on several machines.
Have someone experience with that ?
I have installed the webshare contrib and have configured Foxmarks for the SME webshare. I have browser access to the webshare. Foxmarks reports that the upload of the bookmarks is successful but I can't see the bookmark file in my webshare via the browser. So I think it is not uploaded.

AFAIK Foxmarks needs DAV to be enabed, not sure if webshare does that. I have it set up to just use a DAV enabled ibay, which works OK: http://wiki.contribs.org/DAV

Rather than Foxmarks, we use the Firefox add-on 'SyncPlaces' with a WebDAV enabled ibay as the backend and are very happy with its functionality.

I am not an expert to already understand your proposed solutions completely but now I have two ways what I can check to get the functionality.
Thank you.

Late but not too late I was able to spend some time again to test your suggestions.

Now it works fine with the contrib DAV and Foxmarks. Also the Thunderbird (lightning) calendar file is now located at the SME server.

Various users/machines should use the same calendar file.
I read about problems linked to the multiple access to the calendar file.
Any suggestions / latest news available about this?

Thank you for your support. SME is really an impressive solution.

Kind Regards

an alternative is

http://wiki.contribs.org/Scuttle

Scuttle is a web-based social bookmarks manager that enables you to:

    * Store all your favourite links in one place, accessible from anywhere.
    * Share your bookmarks with everyone, with friends or just keep them private.
    * Tag your bookmarks with as many labels, instead of wrestling with folders.
