Email rejected: Error 550 5.1.1 recipient rejected (state 14).
« on: December 31, 2008, 02:05:24 PM »
I've had an SME Server operating for a few years.  Haven't really used the Email function but considering it so testing it out.  It sends mail just fine.  When I send an email from outside though it gets rejected.  Tried sending from Cox.net and Gmail.com with same results.  The email is rejected for Error 550 5.1.1 recipient rejected.

MailEnable: Message could not be delivered to some recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

   Recipient: [SMTP:troy@thisreplaced.net]
Reason: Remote SMTP Server Returned: 550 5.1.1 <troy@thisreplaced.net> recipient rejected

Thanks!

Make sure that your domain name's MX  records are pointing to your server correctly.

I checked and it's coming back to mx.coxmail.com which is our ISP for the office.  We are using their DNS server.  Should I change that?

Thanks!

That may well be the issue. Create an A record for your server's IP, if it doesn't already exist, and then an MX record pointing to the name in the A record.
