Unison How to ???
« on: January 05, 2009, 02:34:39 PM »
I have not used unison but think that it would meet some needs that I have.
I have installed the package and it works well if I want to sync the same machine to the same machine. This does prove however that it is loaded on the SME and works locally anyway. But what I want to do is sync a windows to windows comptuer but use unison on SME Linux to be the middle man as it were. I have down loaded the Windows software on one of the machines. One windows machine is on the network of the SME and the other is outside the network.

Has anyone done this. I have tryed doing some things on the web but no real success.

I have used unison a fair bit.  What you are wanting to do is certainly not that difficult to do with Unison.

Why are you wanting to put SME in the middle?  Why not just sync windows-windows?

Well actualy there is no reason to put SME in the middle I just thought you had to?? Originally I got the idea from a doctor who is downloading patient files between his two windows computers. For some reason he has linux in the middle. I dont know why they have it configed this way. Knowing I dont need the linux goes to show how much I know about it unison.  I did DL the windows software and tryed it in my windows to linux config and found it a pain, and could not get it to work. (I didnt) And I had to dl something called pidgin to get dlls and it just seemed like a lot of stuff I was downloading that I didnt need. If I was to do windows to windows what would you recomend to start fresh?
