SME with windows workgroup problem
« on: January 07, 2009, 01:43:21 PM »
I have an sme server 7.4 at my office with 5 users and 3 domains working absolutely fine. I have enabled VPN access for all five users.
I am able to connect via VPn to my server from home
Here I have a query....

Say for eg. In my office my server ip is 192.168.1.250 with gateway at 192.168.1.1, It is in server only mode.

I log in from my house to that server via windows VPN (PPTP) username: userone pass:1234

Then i log in to my userone's file from start---run---\\192.168.1.250\userone
on giving this command the server prompts for a username & pass, It accepts the username & pass and I can view/edit userone's files.

Now simultaneously I want to open usertwo's files so i type from start---run--\\192.168.1.250\usertwo
Immediately it gives me an error that you might not have the permissions to access the resource.

After that I right click on network neighbourhood and disconnect the network drive formed by connecting to userone & then re-try to login to usertwo this time it logs in perfectly.

Now the question is what stops me from logging in the second user simultaneously. how can it be achieved?

I tried doing the same on a ready made NAS box with single hardrive, with 5 users and folders, I could easily log in all users with their usernames & passwords simultaneously.

so you are logging on as userone into your server..

you can't.. you say to your server you are userone.. userone can't see usertwo home dir.. and this is not a SME limitation, is a feature..

because now your server recognize you as usertwo.. if you try to access userone's files, you can't..

you can't (normally) have access to another user home directory.

if you need some files/dir to be shared between more than one user, you should use ibays

well.. you don't say anything about that nas, so we don't know anything about it and the way it works.. btw, SME and all linux distro (and windows too) work as you are experiencing..
