SquidGuard Google SafeSearch
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:44:26 AM »
Hello, I would like to get some assistance with setting up SquidGuard Google SafeSearch as well as expanding blocking capabilities on SME Server. I have implemented this on K12LTSP for a local Christian school and would like to deploy SME Server as their core server and do all gateway functions on it. I am not too familiar with the template system in SME Server, but get the general idea. I believe it would be great if the SquidGuard template had more options to edit SquidGuard settings through the console. Right now there is very limited capability with it. Can anyone help with updating the SquiGuard templates?

Thanks

Charlie

squidguard can't force safe search, it just blocks lists of sites

you need to to use dansguardian and re write the url

I understand your point about using Dansguardian. However, you can also enable Google SafeSearch in the SquidGuard config file, I know for a fact as I have done it an K12LTSP deployment and just finished working with one of the developers of the SquidGuard package in pfSense (firewall/gateway). The reason I would like to use SquidGuard as opposed to Danguardian is that it is less resource intensive and performs much faster.

I would like to work with the developer/maintainer of the SquidGuard howto for SME Server to get it to be as robust as the one in pfSense. So if you are that person, lets make this happen.

Thank you,

Charlie

Here are the details on SquidGuard for SME Server: http://wiki.contribs.org/SquidGuard

I see you asked back on 17 Jan to my post:

So far I haven't got it working yet. Can you please update this as I am keen to finish this off. I do use Dansguardian, and it works fine and doesn't seem to slow the network down much at all -it's still faster than Microsoft's Anti-phishing filter.

I am working with the developer whom seems to have it partially working, but haven't fully tested yet. I will update my post as soon as we have something concrete. Then hopefully the developer will post an announcement and update to the package.

Charlie,

Deleted my trash and sent-mail over the weekend, lost your email address.  Please send me an email or post here, what version of SquidGuard you are using that works.

Thanks,

John
