Hi

I am trying in SME 7.4 to send mail to a remote alias (example@example.com) from the same domain. Unfortunately, by default it will try to deliver localy, and if not found, then hand it over to postmaster. Is there a way to tell qmail to push mail for a spesific user with the same local domain to the internet and not deliver localy? My apologies if I am posting in the wrong place.

I don't think so as to me it seems quite strange to use two mail servers for one domain, that have a (very) different set of users configured. Why not have SME Server handle all mail for your domain, or have the other mail server handle all e-mail for the domain, this setup seems unnecessarily complex to me.

Thank you for responding. That is normally how I would set it up, but basically they have a catch all account on example.com, that sits with their ISP which SME downloads and distributes perfectly. The second account on the same domain is for their external rep. which needs to receive mail but have no other access to the network, it also provides them with a reliablity factory, where if the server or line is down he can still send and receive important mail from clients.

A quick solution would be to setup a gmail account for the external rep and set his SME user account to forward the SME mails for him to that account. Gmail allows you to retrieve mails from multiple accounts, so you can also set it up to retrieve the mails from your ISP that are addressed to externalrep@example.com, thus his inbox will have messages sent to him from within the SME network and messages sent to him from clients. Within Gmail you have a default 'send mail as' option so mails he sends can be set to look like they've come from externalrep@example.com if you want.

We do something similar but with our ISP hosting our domain and using Google apps for domains for our e-mail. This allows you to have an SME mailserver doing some work and an ISP/Google servers doing other work. I know it's not exactly what SME is designed for but it's the best solution for us.
