Topic: Problem connecting to VPN - SME 7.4

Hi all,

I'm having trouble connecting to a 7.4 box (fresh install +updates).  I think this is a router firewall problem but I can't be sure yet.  The Router is a BT2700HGV ADSL one.  It's in DMZplus mode which passes the fixed public IP to the SME box via DHCP.
The server is in server - gateway mode.  If I use an XP client from the private network to connect to the VPN I can authenticate and pick an IP address but I can from the public side of the router.

I tried plugging the client into one of the router ports and it picks up a strange IP address - 169.xxx.xxx.xxx which I thought was bogus but I was able to ping the public IP address and also connect via VPN.  So, this doe look like the router is blocking connections to the VPN.  I checked from the outside by telentting into port 1723 and /var/log/messages gives:

I'm at a bit of a loss.  Has anyone had any similar problems with these routers?
Where to go next?
