Solved: Snom 370 Provisioning Help Needed
« on: February 26, 2009, 03:31:39 PM »
I'm having a few difficulties on setting this phone up with auto provisioning.

In the advanced area of the phone interface under Update I have changed the setting url to http://192.168.1.15/snom370-$MAC.htm

Using the "For TFTP Update ... Press Any Key" at boot time and filling out the details the phone gets refused in the message logs in SME.

So I let it boot up without TFTP Update.

Now as I was writing this I filled out the "Identity 1" section in the phone with the details I got from sail after I setup a new Snom 370 extension and the phone has connected to sail.

How do I find out if all the other settings have been updated or need updating ??

This is my first time setting up an IP phone on sail.

Regards,

Tib.

Hi Tib,

First of all, you must ensure that you have filled out the MAC address of your phone in the extension panel.  Enter it as one continuous string (not as xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, or xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx). Like this:-  0004132483cf.  Issue a commit and SARK will generate a proivisioning file onto the tftp server for you (make sure you have tftp-server "enabled" in globals).

Next, you need to do things slightly differently if your SARK box is NOT your DHCP server.  If it isn't then you need to put the address of the sark server in the advanced  area of the phone settings (don't attempt to tell it the file name - the 370 will work that out for itself).

If the SARK box IS your DHCP server then you need do nothing at all except reset your 370 to factory default and reboot it.

The Snom will find your SARK box from DHCP option 66 if you are running DHCP on SARK, if not, then you must tell the Snom where to look (in advanced options) or fill out the DHCP 66 option on the DHCP server you are using (domestic routers and modems don't usually support DHCP options but Exchange and SBS both do for example).

When your SNOM comes up it will probabaly display "For TFTP Update ... Press Any Key" - DON'T TOUCH IT!  Just go and have a coffee or something.  Snoms can be notoriously "lazy" at uploading their configs from the TFTP server.  Once it has finished it will show the extension number in the main panel and it is ready to use.

SARK will give you a good basic setting for the phone and you can just use it.  However, as you get more comfortable with your Snom, you will want to change other settings.  As you have already seen there are literally hundreds of settings on the phone.  You can just browse directly to the phone from your SARK extensions panel (by clicking on the connected icon) and change any settings you like.  Obviously, you will lose these settings if you ever reset the phone.  However, Snom make this easy for you by listing all of the settings (see the settings menu choice) so you can see what each one is set to.  You can simply copy any of these settings which you have changed and add them to the provisioning window in SAIL and that will effectively make the change permanent because next time the phone resets it will pick up the setting from the provisioning file.

You can also learn a lot about your Snom and how it performs by reading the snom wiki.  It's pretty comprehensive and tells you how to do most things on the phone.

Have fun with your 370 - it is a really good unit.

Best
