Topic: How can I install rsnapshot?

I'm trying to get rsnapshot installed on SME Server 7.x. I assumed this would be as easy as 'yum install rsnapshot' but that doesn't seem to work.

What do I have to do to get rsnapshot installed?

try.. the second result for "rsnapshot" (the firts is this 3ad) should be good for you (even if in italian)

Um, there's no more "official" way to do this...?

Seriously I tried the search, half the links are broken in all of the posts. And I'd much rather get files from CentOS or someplace trusted than some random guy's website.

are you referring to dag's repo? if so, you can trust that repository as you trust SME's one

if you don't find an howto in the wiki or something usefull in the forums, then remember that SME is Centos, so use google and you will find thousands result.. when you have done, please remember to document it in the wiki..

I suggest you also to read the documentation to understand how SME works

Install and configure Affa. I used to use rsnapshots, but affa is the way to go.
This is not strictly the one and only truth, just my opinion.

please take into account that Affa was inspired by rsnapshot and actually uses the same concepts plus a lot of enhancements and additional features to get a reliable and production ready backup system. So, if you plan to set up backup box based on the SME distro, use Affa. You can set it up in a few minutes.

Thanks, I had looked into AFFA, but it seems like more than we need. We're currently using rsnapshot on the box this one is replacing, so I already have the configuration files and everything set up for rsnapshot, and rsnapshot has worked well for us in the past.

Thanks for the tip, I had not realized that Dag was actually someone involved in the CentOS community to a great extent, rather than just some random person with a bunch of repo files.

I still have a copy of the rsnapshot 1.1.5-1 rpm.  Works like a charm.  I use it in addition to AFFA.
