Are there any archives/logs/transcripts of proceedings?
I cannot answer this question.
However, I have to admit that whilst reluctant (as you are) to adopt a system relying on us "pulling" as opposed to "delivered" to which were added concerns about transparency, archiving, etc, I have now changed my mind about Jabber. The development room is providing a very convenient media to keep in touch with the developments of the distro. It is inter-reactive and fast, one takes what one needs, and one participates when required - my mail box is a lot lighter as a result...
I am accessing the development room using Pidgin (
http://pidgin.im/download/) on my Centos box, and I have enabled logging, meaning that as long as I remain connected to the system, all transactions are on the records, admittedly "my" records". Whilst this does not fully satisfy my concerns about transparency, I now accept that this is a minor issue considering the advantages experienced with this system over the past few weeks. Finally, I am satisfied that there are no sinister connotations about it whatsoever. Over the past year or so, a fair amount of exchanges were conducted using Skype; these were in the form of private conversations unless inviting another party to join the discussion. The development room is a vast improvement - its is all in the open.
I think we just have to move on, and use whatever tools are available to simplify the job at hands. Besides, there must be a way to archive independently all transactions as I do privately by logging for myself. Just a small challenge to deal with, I do not have the skills to sort this out, but this should be a minor issue for people of your calibre.
