I don't think backup to desktop exists any more. But even if it did, 70Gb is a bit much for that function to handle IIRC.

I would plug a USB hard drive up to your server instead. SME Server can use a USB hard drive as a backup device quite easily.

Due to limitations in samba the backup to desktop is limited at a maximum of 4GB IIRC.

AFAIR is a limitation of apache.. with backup to desktop you will download the tgz file.. :-)

anyway, 70G are too many

See the first Note here:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config#Backup_server_configuration

which says:
With sme 7.2 or newer, it is possible to create a backup to desktop smeserver.tgz file of the order of 52Gb, when saved to a share or a connected drive formatted with a NTFS or ext3 file system and when using Firefox as the browser.
See bug 81 here

Note you will not be able to restore that file using a browser from your desktop.

You will need to copy the backup file to a USB stick or burn it to a CD, and then restore on the first start up immediately after installing a fresh copy of sme server OS.

There is also a trick you can use to make the restore at first startup available again, see
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config#Restore_on_initial_reboot_after_fresh_OS_install_-_How_to_Reset_option

70Gb of data will compress to something less than that, maybe half or a third depending on file types. I think there are 32Gb sticks around now, so it may be possible to fit a full backup file on a stick.

Obviously the size of the memory stick will be the limitation, that's why I also said "or CD". There is also the possibility of using a USB drive.

a portable hard drive would be more appropriate perhaps
