Copy files to /opt?
« on: March 29, 2009, 06:14:56 PM »
Hello!
Can anyone give me a hint on how to copy files to a directory in /opt? I am a newbe on both SME and Linux.
I hope it is possible to copy files with FTP or the file manager in Windows. The SME server is in the same local network as my Windows computer...

Regards
Florre

- Enable ssh login to your SME server
- Use 'WinSCP' to transfer files in and out of your SME

ssh: http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter11#SSH
WinSCP: http://wiki.contribs.org/SFTP#WinSCP

On a side note, if you haven't found 'putty' yet, you will want to...

The best and most secure way to manage a SME server from a windows workstation is to use putty with public/private key authentication as described at http://wiki.contribs.org/SSH_Public-Private_Keys.  WinSCP adds file transfer functionality to ssh.

hi

as you are a linux and SME newbie, could you please explain your problem/need and not the solution? :)

why do you need to copy files in /opt?  what are you trying to achieve?

I suggest you to read carefully the documentation as (almost) you need to know about SME is there

Thank you

You never need to move files to /opt. What are you trying to achieve?

Hello!
I have used "Joomla for SME" (http://wiki.contribs.org/Joomla) to install Joomla in /opt/joomla. Now I need to upgrade to the latest Joomla. When I upgrade a Joomla installation at an ordinary Web host I use FileZilla to transfer all files with FTP.
So that is what I try to achive. But, maybe there is a better way?

Florre

The joomla 'talk' page has a set of instructions that can be used to update Joomla 1.5.0 to the latest version: http://wiki.contribs.org/Talk:Joomla
