Xorcom PBX and Gateways
« on: March 29, 2009, 10:46:14 PM »
Hi,

Just to let you know that we've integrated Xorcom gateways and PBX into SAIL-2.2.1-745 and SAIL-2.3.1-745beta.

You don't have to do anything special to run one of these gateways.  Just hook it up to SAIL and run the PCI Card detection panel.  SAIL will do the rest and generate the necessary trunks, groups and extensions for you.  It will also take care of powering the Xorcom hardware up and down when Asterisk starts and stops.

SARK can also be installed in its entirety onto the Xorcom PBX platform (where it will run a hell of a lot faster than what it replaced).  Just take the cover off, plug up a CD reader with SARK .iso on it, reboot and off you go...  Instant (well, 10 minutes to install) turbo Xorcom.

Here's a pic of a Xorcom SARK box under test in our lab, happily exchanging telephone numbers with our Multitech MVP3010 PRI tester/gateway.

PBXs are differentiated from "key systems" in that users of key systems manually select their own outgoing lines, while PBXs select the outgoing line automatically. Hybrid systems combine features of both.

Thanks for a nice simple explanation of the differences. I'm fairly good on asterisk based stuff. Tony, our tech has worked with Siemens and Telstra for many years and every time I've asked the difference between the two I get an explanation that just confuses me even more than I was before I asked.
