Horde Groupware Webmail Edition
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:44:00 PM »
Good Day

I am aware that SME Server uses the Horde framework and modules to provide Webmail etc..., so I was looking through the horde website and see they have Horde Groupware Webmail Edition 1.2.2, which seems to be more "dynamic" etc..Will this be implemented in SME Server?

The best way to getting this implemented on SME Server would be to raise a New Feature Request (NFR) in the bugtracker. I can certainly see a use for it. Do you know if it also allows for access to all components using the common mail clients like Thunderbird and Outlook?

Will raise a NFR...

Looks to be ajax based, but stand to be corrected

That could pretty well be, when based on DIMP (thier dynamic (AJAX) version of IMP).

All of the additional components making up the Webmail addition are available in smecontribs.

kronolith - calendar
mnemo - notes
nag - tasks

Plus
gollem - file manager
dimp - dynamic imp
mimp - mobile imp
jeta - ssh manager

Future
Trean - bookmark manager - will be available once a 1.0 release from horde is available.

I looked at the webmail edition and IMO it would be a lot harder to maintain as there are sometimes numerous changes that need to be sorted out.  The individual components are always released first anyway.

I could be biased because the individual components have been being used since day one and I have become pretty accustomed to them.

Makes sense...

I am sure it is easier to fix a bug in a single contrib then the whole shebang...

Just installed DIMP, very nice, now to figure out how I can get my Calendar and Address book to work with Outlook

Syncing is another issue.  See bug 4772.  There is an issue with realms that was supposed to be fixed, http://bugs.horde.org/ticket/6749, but further reports show it wasn't fixed, but that bug remains resolved.

If you try syncing and it fails, maybe you could add to the horde bug and see if there is more that needs to be done with that bug, or work on bug 4772 where we are looking on trying to remove the realm information.

so I was looking through the horde website and see they have Horde Groupware Webmail Edition 1.2.2, ...

Horde Groupware Webmail Edition is not included in the SME Server CD, so this post is off-topic for this forum.
