Hi Guys,

I have a Brother MFC 7420 machine. The printer works OK, but I cant figure out how to use the scanner/fax part through SME Server.

Any ideas?

SME server has no scanner or fax software.

For the scanner part I'd suggest SANE, but on this page (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-BROTHER) show your MFC is not supported. Sorry.

Otherwise, do you have a windows/mac that you can leave running the scanner software (this is what we do in our office). If you have, you can configure it to save the scan on a network drive:

Do you have the network scan card installed, as this can be configured to save scan directly to SME share.

It doesn't help with the OP's printer but using Brother MFs with an N (network suffix) gives you a similar solution without the need for any standalone shared client. SME servers plays no part, all PCs access the printer scanner etc directly via IP with the results usually saved onto an I-bay share. This has proved an excellent option for scanner sharing.
