Wireless card for use with SME 7.4?
« on: June 16, 2009, 10:39:47 AM »
I've checked the comparability lists and I'm not coming up with anything useful. I have an SME server which needs to be on a wireless link.

Can anyone tell me what (if any) wireless chipsets have driver support in SME?

Thanks.

paul.

none...
SME doesn't support wireless..

even if you find a supported (by the kernel) wi-fi nic, there's no support in the code.

:) That explains why I was getting so little information. Thanks.

Found a way round it, I think. I've just ordered a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP, which is a neat little box that combines a 4 port switch with a wireless unit - should be able to plug the standard wired eithernet connection from the SME machine into it, and use it to connect to the wireless network. I should have thought of it in the first place....

That is also the suggestion that has been offered in many posts concerning this topic on the forums on wireless. I am a bit surprised you did not find any off them :-)
