no connection to my sme server

no connection to my sme server
« on: July 24, 2009, 10:40:46 PM »
I more and more often, do not get any connection to my sme server. I allways have to restart it, to get a connection.

Sadly, no monitor and keyboard is connected to the machine. So I can only connect with ssh to it after a restart and look into the log-files to find any errors, but I have not found anything.

So please give me any hints where do I have to look for.

SME is configured as gateway, dhcp, proxy and dns.

Thanks!

The most likely cause of that is faulty hardware, especially NIC. What network adapter do you have?

If networking is not reliable, you will need to connect a keyboard and monitor if you wish to debug the problem.

Thanks.

  • Are you having problems connecting from a local computer, or from a remote computer?
  • When you are having trouble connecting, can you "ping" your SME?
  • What do you mean by "do not get any connection to my sme server"?
    • Can't establish an SMTP connection?
    • Can't establish a POP3 connection?
    • Can't establish an IMAP connection
    • Can't establish an HTTP or HTTPS connection to any of your ibays?
    • Can't establish an HTTPS connection to /server-manager?
Note: The last two items involve different log files, so the answer is important.
    • Can't connect using SSH?
    • Can't connect using FTP?

If the answers to the above questions reveal that you can't make any connection to your SME from the local network, then you will need to connect a keyboard and monitor to see what's up on the SME when it is not responding.
