Hi,

I need to extend my DHCP range - as I am getting "no free leases" dhcpd errors.  I know I can restart the server to achieve this and/or extend the range abut still need to restart - but I am not able to do that until the end of work hours.

Any help would be appreciated!  Cheers muchly!

Are you really using all your available leases or are perhaps a lot of them used for only a short time (but with a much too long expiry time), which makes it seem there are no available leases anymore? If so I think you would be better of altering the lease time on SME Server, which would result in reservations be occupied shorter and falling free earlier.

What is the number of computers in your net? What is the size of your DHCP range? What is the lease time? The first one is something only you know, the second can be checked in the server-manager when reviewing your configuration, the latter can be checked on a windows client by looking at the output if

To answer your direct question - there is no way to drop a DHCP leases once it has been given. Leases are valid until they expire - they cannot be revoked.

Thanks heaps for your reply.  Exactly the problem - using OCS inventory, large numbers of PC's but only 60 allowed in my range.  We won't be heavily inventoring often and need to allow our legitmate users login this morn - preferably without reboot of the server.

I of course, should have thought of this!

Our lease duration is 1 day.  I'm not sure if I can force expiration of held leases anyway prior to this 1 day being up - but I can see from Charlies reply that this isn't able to be done.  Bummer - restarting away I guess...

There are two options, extend the IP range to a more suitable number to your situation if you have 60 computers that most likely all the same on the net that need a DHCP assigned IP you would make your range at least around 60 or more.

If you cannot extend your range you can arrange the lease time to be shorter, but you will need to create custom templates for the template fragment specifying your lease time and modify that. More on the template system is in the SME Server Developers Guide linked from the wiki, sorry it is way passed bed time so I do not have time to spell it out for you (at the moment). I might have tomorrow if you can not find out yourself in the mean time.
