how to change recipient of email notification for DAR backup.
« on: August 24, 2009, 01:49:52 AM »
Hi can anyone advise how I can change the email recipient when the backup is completed for DAR backup. Currently sending to admin- is it possible to forward or add other users for the backup report?

not an answer but a question: why did you post twice in different forums the same request?

well, according to a quick search you were unsure some time ago too: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,43955.0.html

it seems also that you didn't search a lot: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,39247.0.html ;-)

Hey stefano its your arrogance and smarter than others attitude, that hinders other people from attempting to try linux or get there head around it- I'm just a newbie and from your response it shows that you know how to spot one... Yes im new to forums and don't quite know the forum etiquette so why take advantage of it. If you can see that I'm new and need help so why don't you keep your arrogant and patronizing comments to yourself!!
Its why Linux is still struggling to get a foothold because of people like you.

ber, if, as you say "its your arrogance and smarter than others attitude, that hinders other people from attempting to try linux", I could say that it's your (generally speaking) laziness that makes things going wrong.

IMO a user with 65 posts on the forums is not a forum's newbie and, anyway, before posting you (again, generally speaking) should always search the forums and the wiki.

that said, I apologize: I didn't want to be arrogant with you.

did the link solve your problem?

Stefano, my posts are indicative of the fact that I need help and dont have the knowledge to fully utilize Linux. I'm a little suprised at the kind of response that you gave, I felt that it was no business of mind to post a question unless I was more experienced.
I am not lazy and the 65 posts compose of 5 or so questions- yes lots of replies and pleas for the dev team to explain things so that i can understand and therefore learn. I have been trying Linux for almost 2 years and have no command line knowledge- For a newbie with limited time on my hands it is intimidating to post because I'm dealing with poeple who know a lot more than me. If its difficult and people are upset that I don't try to find out myself, maybe it better i stick to windows and GUI.

ber, nobody taught me to "use" linux/SME and command line.. I just tried and tested and I made many mistakes.. so, please, don't be shy to learn, try, ask..

just remember that there's a good probability that your problem/question has already been solved, so you should really spend some time to search.. I found the link I gave (and you did not tell me/us if it solved your problem) simply clicking on "search" link, writing "dar email" in the text box and.. that's all..

I suggest you to spend some time to install a virtual SME to test.. without the fear of damaging something, you'd find yourself more confortable.. and once you start using CLI, you'll be surprised of the power that you gain..

That is a little to much honour I think... Stefano on his own is hindering the spread of all Linux flavours? :-)

I can think of a few much more likely reasons than people 'bashing' newbies that are the real cause of Linux not taking the foothold it deserves and it mainly has to do with big multinationals forming a near monopoly in the world of operating systems. There influence is so big they can force the masses to think what they design should be the standard instead of adhering to the defined standards, an example of this would be the opendocument format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Office_Open_XML_and_OpenDocument

Ber,

Did you get an answer to your question?

If do don't care if all the admin e-mail (not just the backup reports) are forwarded to your group of users the following works well.

1> In server-manager click on groups under Collaboration. Create a new group called reports.

2> On the Users panel, go into each user that you wish to receive the admin mail and click the report group so they are members of this group.

3> Go into the admin user and under the email delivery box use the down arrow and select Both deliver locally and forward. Then go into the  forwarding address box and put the new group name as the address report@your_email_domain_name.com. Now all members of the group report should get a copy of the admin e-mails.

Good luck,

Royce

Hi Thanks for the reply Royce, yeah I thought about what you mentioned but I'm getting lots of error reports from NUT regarding connection/comm issues, not a big deal but the amount of emails would be a problem- getting about 12 comm errors from NUT every hour. Wouldn't want to sift through all the comm NUT reports trying to find my backup report from DAR. Thanks all the same.
Saying that I think all that others have said are relevant and will take onboard their recommendations- do more research and then ask...
