Please read the online manuals, which it would seem you have not done. sme is already a fully configured mail server by default. Look at server manager panel for mail server details, and configure your email clients accordingly. Configure email options in server manager as required.

So you want to serve SME attract external mail from mail server.
1. One network card enough

2 additional card if the server is SME dial

Please read manual re operating modes eg server gateway (requires 2 NICS) or server only (requires 1 NIC)

In both modes the mail server is functional.
Which mode you choose depends on your existing network arrangement.

In server gateway mode, sme acts as a firewall and usually is connected to a modem that is configured in a bridged arrangement.

In server only mode there will be another firewall/router in front of sme, and you forward necessary ports for mail etc to the sme server.

Obtain a real domain name. Configure your sme with your real domain name, commercial or free is OK. Configure external DNS & MX records to point the domain at your static external IP number. If you have a dynamic IP then the configuration will be slightly different and you will need to use the built in dynamic IP updating client or use ddclient instead (an add on contrib).

Configure port forwards if necessary (if using a seperate firewall/router).
Configure your workstation email clients to use mail.yourdomain.com

if you need to download mail via pop3/imap from your isp you can install smeserver-fetchmail  contrib

please, as mary suggest you, take the time to read the documentation and to search in the forums and in the wiki before posting

Quote
Fetchmail itself is already installed on your SME Server : it is used by the ETRN and multidrop mode of the e-mail configuration (See the SME documentation for more information)"

You can configure the required email mode in server manager Email panel.
AFAIK the default sme server config can download from one pop account only.
I'm sure it's covered in the manual, see
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter13#E-mail
It seems you still have not read/absorbed that section, so please do.

From the manual:
"If you arranged "multidrop" mail service from your ISP, choose "multidrop" and then scroll down to the field that asks for the IP address or hostname of your ISP's secondary mail server. This secondary mail server will receive all e-mail for your domain and store it in a single POP mailbox. Further down the screen, you will need to specify the user account and password assigned by your ISP for this POP mailbox. Your server will periodically fetch this mail and distribute it to individual POP mailboxes on the server. (Note that due to problems receiving mail for mailing lists, we strongly encourage people to NOT use multi-drop e-mail.) "

From the server manager panel:
"The e-mail retrieval mode can be set to standard (for dedicated Internet connections), ETRN (recommended for dialup connections), or multi-drop (for dialup connections if ETRN is not supported by your Internet provider). Note that multi-drop mode is the only option available when the server is configured in private server and gateway mode."

The fetchmail add on contrib will allow to to download mail from multiple email accounts.
All contribs are listed here, and it seems you have not looked there either, so please do (fetchmail is there).
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib
Follow the instructions in the Contrib wiki for fetchmail.

Having said all the above, using fetchmail in any form is NOT recommended as it has inherent problems.
You will be better off to configure any POP accounts to forward all email to your domain based email addresses, and use the standard smtp server domain based email collection on your server.

Over time you should stop using POP accounts and only advertise your domain based email addresses eg user1@yourdomain.com rather than user1@yourISPdomain.com

Thanks again mary .. u're so helpfull :)

i'm sorry before coz i'm not good enough to learn this all about ..
i'll try to explain what i'm doing right now .. hope u can understand it .. related to my bad english :)
here .. i  have mail server from my hosting website ex: www.testuser.com, so for now .. if we want to check the mail,we goto www.testuser.com/webmail, then we use outlook express to get that mail .. and some people using webmail..
so we only have back up the email on the user pc only if we check option to keep copy message on server, then on the main mail server (hosting) but it's very very limited quota :(

mail server (from hosting) ---- internet ---modem ---mikrotik----then to user pc

now i'm planning to make an email server on my lan for backup email from mail server hosting .. using sme server (mail server)
maybe just like this :

mail server (from hosting)---internet---modem---mikrotik--mail server (SME SERVER) --- then goes to user pc .. the user pc with outlook express i'll check option "keep copy message on server"

just like that .. i hope that u can help me .. to learn n understand , how to make it ...

oya .. and now my pc box with sme server already running on my lan with ip 192.168.0.3 , users on the same class ip starting from 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.75
but i still don't know how to access webmail on my sme server :D , my domain server is "testuser.com , for example ..
when i type " http://www.testuser.com/webmail .. he goes directly to main mail server on the hosting .. , i try to type " http://192.168.0.3/webmail , can't display page..
so how can i login to my webmail at sme server ?

I really appreciate for all advise n tutorial that u gave me...

Thanks a lot ..

The simplest and possibly the best approach is to stop using the external mail hosting server, and let your sme server do the job of mail server for that domain.

I assume external DNS/MX records point your domain to that external host server, so you would need to change those records to point the MX records to your sme servers static IP address.

An easier approach may be to host the whole domain on your sme server, and then just forward web (www) requests to the external web site hosting server. You configure this in the Hostnames and addresses panel.
All mail will be handled by sme then and www by the external server.

I'd ask though, "Is that what you want ?"

not really mary .. i want to keep using external mail server ( from hosting ) coz my internet connection not 24 hours online .. only office hour .. 7:00 am to 17:30 pm

then i want to use this sme server only for my office LAN .. so if someone from here go to another place he still can send n receive the email from any where on anytime which internet connection available for him ..

i want to use this sme mail server just only for my office lan on office hour only .. coz some email have to keep available on mail server for office needed ... so i decided to grab email from mail server to my sme server and keep on that sme mail server .. so the quota on main mail server (hosting) not quickly full or over quota .... then this email only needed for office time only at the office ... and for some people .. they still can access mail directly to mail server hosting ..

did u get my point  ?:) i hope so .. coz the language is the matter .. :)
i just try once with mdaemon .. n it;s work .. but they need a license .. so i try to look for alternative way .. using an open source program like linux with sme server  :)
