Temporary Failure in Resolution using OPENDNS
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:19:00 AM »
Good Day

I have been using OpenDNS in the DNS settings of my SME Servers, I have found that the Internet Browsing has slowed and I sometimes get temporary name resolution failure, anyone else experiencing this problem?

Shawn: I think this is not a SME issue, so it's a bit OT in this forum.. :-)

Not really/Not here. I have been using for several months OpenDNS here for our home network for testing without problems (although the younger family members are not happy with my selection of blocked sites ..)

No surprise at all there. SME server already has a superb reliable DNS caching resolver. You don't need opendns.

Open DNS does have some issues with some ISP proxy's. I had alot of issues via a pecific ISP till I returned to using the ISP's DNS. I subsequently learned it was a known issue.

p-jones, why are you using your ISP's DNS? As with OpenDNS, using ISP's resolvers can cause problems. SME Server already has an excellent caching resolver.

I didnt actually say I was using it with SME although  as a test, I did replicate the initial issue with SME. Initially I discovered this issue with W2003 server.

Moving this topic to the General Discussion forum, it is more appropriate there. Thanks!
