Can't see html and cgi folder on FTP
« on: January 13, 2010, 07:46:22 AM »
Hello

I want to make website for primary domain "www.abc.com" and created an I-bay account "itbay", in this "itbay" has an user account "wilson", this user in "it" group.

In remote access:
FTP access: Allow public access (entire Internet)
FTP password access: Accept passwords from anywhere

The "itbay" settings are:
Group: it
User access via file sharing or user ftp: Write = group, Read = group
Public access via web or anonymous ftp: Entire Internet (password required)
Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): Enabled

When I use FileZilla ftp client connect to server with "itbay" account to login, I can't see
html and cgi folderin FTP, which settings incorrectly?

Thanks !

Try FTP login as a user rather than the ibayname.
Please read the Manual chapter on ibays as it is explained there.

It's set in the ibay panel. You need to also enable FTP access generally.
The answer is in your first post !!!

IIRC anonymous FTP only allows read access to files.
If you wish to write or upload files to an ibay (using FTP), you need to login as a valid sme user and then cd (change) to the ibay folder.

Please read the ibay chapter fully and completely as it is explained there, keep reading all the chapter until you find it.
See http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter14#Accessing_the_i-bays

What is the syntax or format of the FTP URL you try to use ?
It should be like this
ftp://loginname@ftp.yourdomain.com

Hello Mary

I read document already, I don't understand why I can't see html and cgi folder using i-bay account login to FTP.

I use the following  syntax  to login ftp:

Host: either IP or domain name

Login name: itbay

Password: itbay password: *********

Thanks !

Edit: blanked the password

I thought you could not login at all  OK then.

That's because you are just looking in the .../ibayname/files folder, which is where files are saved for shared access.

As mentioned in my other posts you need to cd to the other folders using the command menu in your FTP client. I have not used FTP for a long time, so I'm not sure if you can cd when logged in anonymously (ie as ibayname). I have my doubts.

As stated earlier, anonymous FTP login (ie anyone using the ibayname to login with), does not have write permissions.

Also as stated before, you should login as a valid sme server user and then cd to the ibay and required subfolder.

Please confirm, are you trying to get read access only, or do you want write access also ?
