Why was restore from desktop removed from the application it was the easiest way and the new server refuses to recognise the backup from desktop. I think this was a backward step for the app. It is also refusing to recognise the unzipped files. Need help URGENT

Why was restore from desktop removed ...

Because it seldom worked - and never for over 4GB.

Restore from backup never recognised unzipped files.

Copy your backup file to DVDR, USB stick or external hard drive. Then use the console restore from backup option.

Our backup has never been over IGb in fact the backup i needed to restore was 580Mb. And i don't understand the difference between an External Hard drive or a Desktop seems to me they are the same thing. I loaded Ver 7.2 Did a restore from desktop and the did the upgrade to Ver 7.4 Took till after midnight last night But is now up and running nicely. Thanks for your reply and i might put in a request to have it replaced in the next version. the usb option, is that on the server or on a pc connected to the network.

Thanks again
PS Sorry if i sounded crabby but i was very frustrated trying to restore the backup i had just made.

If you mean "I might ask for the backup to desktop to be reintegrated", I would suggest you to avoid :-)
if such a functionality has been removed there's a good reason: it was not fully reliable and didn't work for backup above 4Gb.. and 4GB is, nowadays, a small backup..

just my 2€c

I gave you simple instructions on how to restore the backup. I expect the User Guide describes the same process. It's not hard.
