Topic: how to setup bsmtp in SME 7.4

Hello everyone,

I want to setup a Bsmtp for the SME7.4 for another SME7.4 so we can catch each other emails when one of us is offline.
When the (first) SME7.4 comes back up the (second) SME7.4 sends the "lost" emails and the other way also.

The problem is, i can't find any info how to do...

Perhapps you can help me.

you can achieve the same result with 2 mx records (one for the master server and one for the backup one) and fetchmail

when master server comes up again, it simply download the emails from the bakup server with fetchmail

You don't need to use fetchmail. Add the domain to rcpthosts and goodrcptto on the secondary and it will accept and relay mail for that domain.

That said, spam filtering is so important, and so hard to get right on an mx backup, that IMO it is not worth it. How frequent and long are the outages that you are trying to work around?

Where can i find rcpthosts and goodrcpt and when i reboot, the new configuration stays active?
What must i install or do with both servers?
And when one server is completely down the other server catch the mail automatically and send it automatically to the first server when it comes up again?

You don't have to do anything then. You won't lose incoming mails. The sending side is required to keep them and try again later if your site is offline. Unless you plan to be offline for a week...
