Topic: 403 forbidden error on second domain web site

I tried to create a second domain to run a second web site from. I followed the directions in the manual (chapter 13). I followed the following steps:

-Created a new i-bay called "test" (I am testing the procedure before creating the real site)
-Set its permissions to write admin and read everyone
-Created a domain "test.local"
-Gave it a description
-Set the i-bay to "test" (which was selected by its description - I thought not selecting it by its name was odd but not a problem)
-Set the DNS to resolve locally
-Created a index.htm file in the test i-bay and in the files folder inside the i-bay using a SSH client.

Then I tested the site and got a 403 forbidden error. I tried test.local, test.local/index.htm, test.local/html/index.htm in a firefox window. To trouble shoot I did the following:

-pinged test.local -> returned the correct IP and performed the ping correctly
-checked the hostnames and addresses item in the server-manager -> a similar set of addresses was found matching the primary domains addresses and all were set to the same correct IP
-Placed an index.htm in the primary folder's html folder and tried to get it to come up in firefox -> worked perfectly
-rebooted and tried all the test.local addresses again -> still did not work
-checked the permissions on the i-bay and the folders and the index.htm files -> admin owns everytjhing inside the i-bays (test and Primary) The permissions were set more stringently on the Primary folders and files (read was set to owner and group in Primary and in test read was set to owner, group, and other)

I know that it is probably something simple that I am over looking, anyone have any ideas?

You need to enable web access for the ibay (in server manager) and you need to put your index file and all other web content in the html folder rather than the files folder.

You are better off to just use "normal" domain names eg mydomain2.com

Use http://mydomain2.com/test to access it

Some thinking has been done about it as well as some discussion, but it was decided not to implement it, see for details: http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3389

You are better off to just use "normal" domain names eg mydomain2.com

Actually it is essential to use "normal" domain names for websites to be accessible from the Internet.
