Keep them over your eyes.

I am not sure what you mean by this, but I think I should interpret this as a negative comment. Please speak and state what you mean with a proper motivation instead of imposing the negative suggestion we are horses with blinkers... I think your reaction is a bit childish and IMHO even a bit cowardly.

Shad has been a great driving force behind SME Server and most likely will continue to be one in the future. People, Shad included, dedicate their free time to this distribution and are free to decide how to spent it. I think you can show some more respect to Shad and the community.

I respect all of the developers. I support most of the SME community. The reference to blinders being on seems pretty straight forward to me.

The devs will undoubtedly continue at their pace. The community isn't driving it any faster. I truly hope they get something out of their participation in the other project(s) since they don't here.

Once the community stops working, the devs can't work. Once other solutions arise that fill a decent percentage of the gap that's missing from SME, and they have releases flowing, I don't see how our community can survive.

Best estimate is that it would potentially be picked up by one of the other projects and made into a customized version... or perhaps it will keep puttying along at it's current pace and be able to easily handle Windows 7 logins without hacking away right around the time Windows 8 comes out.

And now comes the verbal assault from Cactus and mary and whomever else it the current "don't state the obvious if you're not willing to help" zealot. I'm used to it. I still use SME and will in it's minimalistic role. I wish there were more I was equipped to do to help.

Thanks for explaining your opinion.

And now comes the verbal assault from Cactus
Fine... than you should already know you should not bite the hand that feeds you, I suggest you start acting like it.

and mary and whomever else

Pleas do not drag in others that did not even take part in this thread.

it the current "don't state the obvious if you're not willing to help" zealot.
It might be your opinion but there is no reason to state it as a fact, as IMHO it is not obvious at all.

Please do not call me a zealot! I take that as an offense. I am not a religious fanatic and certainly not in favor of armed resistance (sometimes even fed by religion). I suggest you look up the origin of zealot when you do not understand why I am offended.

And that is not really brave, is it?

It has been stated before by devs, that they will continue to do development work, whether the community is more active or less active and whether they have formal management structures in place or not.

AFAIK Win 7 login is supported by sme8beta5

Cactus,

I don't want this to keep going but you are clearly the king of stoking the fire.

First off, you are not the hand that feeds me, nor is the SME community.

Second, I'm not biting. I'm sharing my opinion based on 10 years of use of this product. It has seen better days, there's no denying that. Perhaps it will rise again but in my humble opinion, that's unlikely given the lack of support by the members of the community.

Third, the last time I checked, members of the Wiki & Docs team weren't bestowed the magical rights to mouth off to, or order members of this community around (misspellings and all).

Fourth, if you want to get literal with the verbiage I use, that's your right I suppose but I'm fairly certain that the 6 other people who read this will get the intent of the word zealot. If you want to write a dissertation on the history of zealot and it's literal meaning, be my guest but perhaps you could submit it to a literary user's group instead of here.

And finally, if you are honestly trying to start some sort of fight, verbal or otherwise by calling me a coward and continuing down that same path with your followup then I suggest you look into some relaxation or meditation courses to get a handle on this deep seated anger that you have in you. It is present in a high percentage of the posts that you contribute too in the recent past.

Ok, I'm done with Cactus - The supreme all knowing ruler of Docs and Wikis, leader of the unarmed mildly or non-religious peoples of his lands.

I know mary. And thank you for a friendly response. I'm truly sorry that I was involved in yet another one of these types of non-productive discussions. I'm looking forward to SME8 and hope that this community gets a second, or third wind.

Thanks to the devs for the thankless work they do.

Then I'm looking forward to future posts by you which show more sensitivity to others and a bit more thought & wisdom in the words you choose to say, just as much as you are looking forward to sme8.

IMHO you did not been involved, you, de facto, start this "flame"

you say you are using SME since 10 years.. you are saying that the  community is not active.. well, I guess that you, as a 10 years old user, will be more active here to help the community, the devs and the other to keep this product alive.. will you?

that's the problem.. with you and many other members of the community: you are looking forward..
what about been involved?
what about donating?

1) how much did you donate in 10 years of use?
2) did/do you earn  money with SME?

if the answers are "0" and "yes", well, you are biting the hand (even if it does not feed you)

The answers are neither "0" nor "yes". I've contributed money, time, and in the forums and tracker. And I've never made money off of SME unless you consider not paying for an email server for my small company as making money. I don't install SME systems for the few external clients I have. I used to use SME for our firewall, email server, and even SVN repo at different times but it has dwindled down to email only at this point.

But back to the basic element here, I do realize that I started this and I am apologizing now. Let's move on.

As my name got mentioned, your apology is accepted.
I would just like to add that I am personally very strongly opposed to all forms of zealotry, it's not a good attitude to propagate generally speaking.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zealotry
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/zealot

Zeal may have been more likely the word you meant to use.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/zeal
"fervor for a person, cause, or object; eager desire or endeavor; enthusiastic diligence; ardor."

There is a big difference between zeal and a zealot.

I see, so you are changing your story:
