entries in passwd file
« on: October 02, 2010, 02:43:25 AM »

I noticed a strange thing.  there are users reflecting in the server manager but I don't see the corresponding entries in /etc/passwd file.

noticed this when transferred my sme server to a new hardware using affa.  Every thing is working fine but for the four users whose entries are not present in the /etc/passwd file.

Any pointers to trouble shoot this.

thanks

Not much with the low amount of information you are providing. You should check your old /etc/passwd file to see if they were in there as well as this file is not regenerated from templates. My guess is that the problem already was present at your old instance.

thanks cactus,

yes the problem was already present in the old instance.

but the four users were able to work and access mail and files in the old instance.

the four users are not able to access the mail and files after transferring to new hardware.

What information do I need to provide to identify the issue.

So the problem is probably not caused by Affa, it just transferred the settings as they were.

I'm just guessing here, due to lack of information.
Did you use another tool to setup those users originally eg Lazy Admin Tools ? (or something else).
Did you use standard Linux commands to create users ? (ie not the system specific sme server events/commands/server manager panel) ?
Do you use the LDAP contrib ? There were issues with users, see bugzilla.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Two things to notice.

1.  The original server was working in spite of these four entries missing in the passwd file, even for the four users.

2.  Came to notice it, only after migration to new hardware, and these four users complaining that they were not able to access their mail and files.

The users were created the server-manager and not any way else.

Will confirm about the LDAP contrib, I am not sure about it.

For the time being I used the signal-event user-create command to add these users and now they are able to access their files.

thanks
