Backup to workstation
« on: June 27, 2002, 02:50:33 AM »
Hi,

I would like to configure my backups to goto a workstation. However I what I would like is that for each day of the week the backup has that name. For example on Monday when it does a back up it would go to my workstation's directory as monday.tgz. Tuesday it would be named tuesday.tgz.

From my opinion they are three reasons for back ups:
1) hardware failure - fixed using an ARAID99-1000 (RAID 1 system)
2) fire/theft protection - the remote workstation is in different building
3) stupid user (did a rm -r *) - Thus the daily named (week long) backups.

If their are better soultions people have came up with I would love to hear them. I would especially like to use some sort of high compression option than the one above.

Thanks
Trampas

i've built a rpm that does everything you ask for and more
www.dungog.net/sme/howto/backup.htm

the demo screens explain the available options better than the howto itself
