SME server on Kontron JRexPlus-DC single board computer
« on: October 09, 2010, 03:33:49 AM »
Hi all,

I am putting together a data logging solution, and part of this entails a server running on a single board computer which will be in the cabinet of the logger. I am toying with the idea of using a Kontron JRexPlus-DC board, which can be seen here:
http://au.kontron.com/products/boards+and+mezzanines/embedded+sbc/jrex+35+sbc/jrexplusdc.html

It has a CF socket and I have 2 questions:
1. Has anyone ever installed SME server (7 or 8 ) on this type of board and
2. Will it be possible to install SME server on the CF card, in other words, can SME be installed on Cf cards in general?

Much appreciate any feedback
Thanks
Frank

as long as the cpu is a atom one, SME should work without any issue

I remember a 3ad about it, some years ago

anyway, IMO SME is not the rigth product for you.. if you need only a logserver running on a CF, you should/could take a look, for example, to voyage linux

Thanks Stefano,

I am used to SME and have used it for a long time on my server at home. I'm not overly experienced with it, but find my way around. As for the logserver, it needs to have a webinterface, email capabilities, needs to run perl script, cron jobs etc...
Also, mulitple loggers will connect to it through a switch (local LAN), and the logserver logs them all and provides an interface to the outside (WAN).
Just wondering if Voyager can do all that?

Maybe I go down the road and have SME installed on a solid state HD attached to the Kontron board?

thanks
