How to change network address?
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:16:26 PM »
I am running version 7.2 of the server. I recently changed ISPs and I'm forced to use a different network number. I was using 192.168.10.x and now need to use 192.168.1.x. The FIOS-supplied router can only use 192.168.1.x because they've hard-coded their STD to use that network.

I've tried to figure out how to change my network settings but can't seem to get it right. I've searched the forums, read the Wiki, read the templates tutorial, and searched the how-tos. I've come up blank.

One article showed how to use the web admin interface, but I can't get to web admin because I can't see the SME server because the network is incorrect.

I'm sure it's in a template somewhere but i can't find the settings.

I'll need to change LocalIP, Gateway, etc. Using "db configuration set" doesn't work either. A reboot resets everything. And, "db configuration setprop" doesn't seem to make any changes.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fist of all you should update, the current release is 7.5.1 and lots of updates and (security) fixes have been released.

It should, but only if you issue the correct commands, something must have been wrong in your commands. The easiest way is to log in to your server as admin to the console. You will be prompted with the menu, from which you can choose the option to reconfigure your server. You should be able to alter IP, subnet and gateway there. Despite not being able to find it, this is in the wiki: http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter6

Thanks you very much, Cactus.

The part I was missing was getting into the console. I had been logging in as root, not admin. I've had this server offline for about a year so had forgotten I could get into the console other than booting from CD.

I'll give this a shot.

BTW: If I d/l the latest version, can I install over the top of my current version without deleting any settings or user mail, etc.?

Yes, but I advice you to make a proper backup anyhow, you never know what else may fail.
