DAR2 Disaster Recovery
« on: November 01, 2010, 01:24:11 PM »
I have to move my current SME installation to a new server. I've completed a full backup on a network share using the DAR2 contrib.

When trying to do a full restore on the new box, using DAR2 command lines, I get an error that reads something like:

darbackupfile1.dar has a bad or corrupted header please provide the correct file

There's an option to continue or cancel. I opt to continue, and all seems to be well.

When the restore is complete however, and I restart the server, I seem to have much of the file structure of the original machine, but the configuration doesn't seem to be there. There are no users, ibays, websites can not be accessed, etc. I've tried extracting the contents of db.zip to the new server, and that seems to help, but it's still not complete.

Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a better solution than DAR2 for disaster recovery, or more specifically, a server move? Ideally, I'd like to ghost the old server, and apply the image to the new box.

Hoping someone can offer a little direction.

Thanks

Redo your backup as your backup file appears corrupt.
Alternatively use the built Backup or Restore - Backup to workstation function or even the admin console Backup to USB function, any of them should be capable of a full backup and restore (without needing to configure the DAR2 contrib first).

Also for some tips etc, and re alternative restore methods see
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config
You could also use the UpgradeDisk Restore from Disk method, no need to perform a backup first.

Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
