Topic: Fetchmail problems with PHP 5.2.9

My external email moved to a new server running PHP 5.2.9. Now it is not possible any more to retrieve email with fetchmail any more.
Here is a maillog with fetching from an old server (mail.42day.net) and then from the new server (mail.pennie.name). First succeeds, last not:

fetchmail has nothing to do with php, so you should serarch in another direction..

The longer I study the log, the more I think:
there is a certificate - even a self made and expired does - needed at the new server.

There seems to be an error when authenticating to the external server.
