Topic: FTP Problem --- Can't Login using "root" ---- SOLVED

Hi

I have an interesting/painful problem.  I have in the past been able to ftp into my SME server using "root".

Today I went to ftp in and my ftp client came back with

Code: [Select]

331 Password required for root
PASS (hidden)
530 Login incorrect.
USER root
I don't know where to look to fix this and can't find anyting that has helped. Is there anyone that has had the same problem and could help me fix this?

I can login using "admin"

I don"t use ftp but i thought of this when I read the post. good luck.

Are you able to log in as root at terminal or via putty?

Wouldn't admin do? AFAIK root is not allowed to access SME Server by default, my guess is you made a modification in the past to make this possible.

I haven't made any changes. Only the one that updates make when installing. I'm not clever enough at this point to start playing with setting and the like. But I was able to log in using root.

Logging in as "admin" doesn't give me access to the dir's that I want to look at. I also run SARKPBX & Asterisk and need to get access to some dir's that are use with both of these products.

Looked at that and tried a few options but that didn't help either.  Good thought thou.

Was trying to log in using FTP when it should have been SFTP/SSH

All works now and I can get to the dir's i need

I was going to say, that I always use sftp. You beat me I kinda like Filezilla but you likely have a favorite client.
