Clamav updates since last update
« on: March 16, 2011, 09:52:57 PM »
Following on from the recent updates, it appears there may be an issue with updating the AV databases. This issue may be occuring silently in the background and there may be a significant population of SME Servers with out of date virus protection.

See bug 6559

Please do not jump to wrong conclusions and alarm users...  The likelyhood of "a significant population of SME Servers with out of date virus protection" is nil based on comment #6 and comment #7 of Bug #6559:

I too believe this to be a duplicate of the other bug. We have seen the same
symptoms "duplicate virus definitions" on various installation and different
versions of Clam (prior to version 0.97).

We find that clam on these servers IS updating and we treat this as log noise
(or sometimes manually remove the duplicate files)

If you care to read carefully what I pasted in the bug report from just one machine,  it was ignoring all the mirrors. I found four more servers doing the same. The message is not really abiguous, ALL THE MIRRORS ARE BEING IGNORED.

I would suggest very strongly, if the mirrors are being ignored, then updates are not happening and for how long has this been happening - since the update ! I think this is very alarming.

What you posted about one machine was not directly related to the bug your referred to.  Bug #6559 is dealing with duplicate databases after updating clamav.  You reported one - and one only - instance of  mirrors being ignored due to previous errors.  If as you claim now you have evidence of a number of other servers having this issue, please open a new bug and provide as much information as you can about it.

And I will repeat again, please do not jump to hasty (and alarming) conclusions.  What you are talking about appears to be a different issue than the issue covered in Bug #6559.  If you care about this, please open a new a bug report and let the Devs decide whether there is a need to warn users about this in the Forums.

Thanks.

There is no longer anything to report. Following the solution in that bug thread resolved the issue
on each machine.
