Please Help - Restore from workstation
« on: May 05, 2011, 06:31:03 AM »
Hi,

I have gotten myelf into a bit of a situation that I cannot find a way out of.

I had intended to restore a specific file from last nights backup but instead kicked off a full restore. I forced a reboot (shutdown -r now) whilst it was restoring user profiles as there are several iBays I simply could not afford to have rolled back to last night.

Now when I go into the backup restore menu I have a "refresh this display" option or two configure options only.

I can restore the user profile folder I interupted and proceed to restore just the files I intended to if I could get the correct menu optins again.

What is the best way forward please.

Peter

[complete guess]
Normally I think a restore is followed by
  signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot

This might massage things back to normal and get your restore menu back.

I might recommend a USB backup before proceeding, if that's feasible - or an "across the wire" backup of the critical ibays using scp or Winscp or rsync.

Thanks mccarn

Problem got a bit worse before it got better. The headless server, 350Km away, got to the point it wouldnt boot.
Got them to attach a monitor and keyboard and tell me what the screen was showing.

Found this post  http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=34217.0 and followed the instructions near the end.
(yes, the bug Charlie indicated still exists !!!)

Did a post-upgrade, reboot and it seems my bacon has been saved !! Was looking like possibly a long drive and a long night.

P

PS: I should say that at the time I posted, I had not tried the post-upgrade / restore. When I did that remotely, it got me into the no boot situation !!! Bit ironic really. First time up, it got me deeper in the c***p, then second time, it got me out of it !
