Hi,

Recently followed this contrib http://wiki.contribs.org/Web_Application_Redirect_Tutorial to allow a redirect for my www.mydomain.com to work for Joomla, but now I can't access server-manager or webmail from www.mydomain.com/server-manager or www.mydomain.com/webmail - the joomla website works as expected!

This is possibly the intent regarding the contrib, as the directory has changed to opt/joomla? Either way can anyone assist in fixing / amending or providing the URL I should use?

Many thanks.

That is a known issue, for a workaround/possible answer, please read the great big Warning ! at the beginning of that wiki article, and also read the discussion page it refers to.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Hi,

Thank you for responding.

Did see the warnings, although I wasn’t really sure what the issues / side effects maybe – it would seem from your post this may indeed be one of them. Still in development at the moment, so not worried about causing a problem at this time just trying to iron any problems.

I am a newbie so trying to get a feel for things and more understanding. After doing some searching around this did seem like the simplest and quickest fix to my initial issue, although it seems to have created another one.

One solution I noted on the net was to install the app into an ibay, but then I read this is not a good idea.

I’ve read the other links, although understanding the code is a little beyond my knowledge – was wondering if I just need to great more web templates to access the server-manager and webmail, maybe add the locations into the existing script in the contrib or that there just isn't a fix at this time?

Not sure if you can help, or perhaps if you feel the answers are easily accessible – if so, no problem, let me know and I will keep looking into this further and post my findings.

Many thanks.

You can install apps quite successfully into ibays and they will work OK, despite other recommendations having been published that advise installing to /opt.
The pros and cons really depend on your situation & needs and how you setup server security and access for users.
Make sure users DO NOT have access to the ibay that apps are installed to.

If you still want to install to /opt please read the answer given on the Discussion page, no point in you contining to ask for an answer when an answer has been provided, you will have to learn how to use and employ the code referred to.

I suggest you read the main wiki article first, which has a well documented method, then apply those concepts but instead use the code referred to on the discussion page.
Is that too hard to follow ?

Hi, thank you for the pointer.

There is indeed the answer to my question via the 'talk page' link at the top of the page http://wiki.contribs.org/Web_Application_Redirect_Tutorial, which can be found here http://wiki.contribs.org/Talk:Web_Application_Redirect_Tutorial – which I only fortunately come across via Google search. My fault obviously for not seeing it, as I was more concentrating on the reference links at the bottom of the page.

Out of interest for anyway else who comes across this issue, I followed the instructions by deleting the 80OptDomainJoomla fragment. Rebooted. Then followed the instructions up to the point where it says 'Worked OK for me' and everything set back to as expected, with still being able to access my website directly.

Many thanks.
